BotW - "Shove It" and "L.E.S. Artistes" by Santogold

Another week, another Santogold song.  Does it get any better?  No, I didn't think so.  In all honesty, Santogold has now been used in 90210 (1x), Gossip Girl (x3), The Hills (x1), and Grey's Anatomy (x1).  With the exception of Grey's Anatomy and The Hills (from last season), it's been used 4x's already this season.  So, if you don't know what a track is and you haven't checked our site yet, you've got a 50/50 chance that it's probably Santogold.  Even if you download Santogold and it's not really what you were looking for, you'll still end up with some great music anyway, so no worries there.

There were, if you can you believe it, other artists that were also used this week.  Let's get to those before we explain why Santogold deserves our Best of the Week award.

90210 had its best music usage to date.  Featured songs included: "Shattered (Turn The Car Around)" (>/+) by O.A.R. (great song that I'm going to download after writing this post) at the beginning dress rehearsal and "Little Bit" (>/+) by Lykke Li when Naomi, Silver & Annie talk about sex over lunch.  But of all the tracks used in the show this week, one was the best.  (And let's also mention we're a little out of order this week because of the fact that we have two tracks getting the award.)  "L.E.S. Artistes" (>/+) by Santogold was used when Annie finds Adriana in Ty's room.  The reason this song was perfect was in large part because of the lyrics, "I can say I hope it will be worth what I give up".  How ironic that she was ready to give up her virginity, hoping it would be to someone who she could trust and then hearing in the background lyrics that echoed that sentiment.  Perfect use.

Grey's Anatomy returned with a very long and somewhat boring two hour episode.  But there were a couple of tracks worth mentioning: "Youthless" (>/+) by Beck was heard as Major Hunt staples his own leg wound and "Jungle Drum" (>/+) by Emiliana Torrini (a strange song for her to be sure) as Cristina flips out at Meredith & is then impaled by an icicle.

The Hills finally showed why Steph can't be trusted.  How fitting then was it that "Cross The Line" (>/+) by Superchick was played when Steph & Doug have dinner at Beso?  Nice fit.

Privileged was pretty good this week, although its ratings are scaring me.  Even on The CW, a 1.3 is not good.  Until it get's cancelled, the show is still putting out great music, including: "Could By Anything" (>/+) by The Eames Era (one of my all time favs) as Megan is introduced to Rose & Sage's 'Oracle' and "Gotta Have You" (>/+) by The Weepies (cool and laid back) as Megan & Jacob go on a date.

And finally, wonderful, tuneful, and angry Serena-ful, Gossip Girl.  I can't wait to see what happens now that Serena is back to her old ways.  It's been awhile since some true drama has occurred on the show and it's far better than dealing with the darn sappy relationships.  Featured tracks include: "Good Day" (>/+) by Nappy Roots ft Greg Street during try-outs for the next Blair-ites (a strange, but welcome use for the show) and "Buildings & Mountains" (>/+) by The Republic Tigers when Vanessa asks Dan for advice on the Catherine situation.  But the best of them all was the atmosphere created from "Shove It" (>/+) by Santogold ft Spank Rock when Dan is shunned at school.  I loved the use and build up to the pure evil genius that is Serena.  It was a great ending track and permanently places it in your memory.

That's it!  Let me know what you thought were the best songs and uses of the week.  Still to come this week: Top5 for September and the potential for a new artist feature, you'll just have to wait and see.  I leave you with our video of the week...
