BotW - "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis
There were a number of songs used this week, but it was a sad time for "Best of the Week". There weren't many good song uses and I think that's why The Hills won the battle this time around. But before we get to that, let's review what else was heard this week.
Gossip Girl had the second best song use with "Do The Panic" (>/+) by Phantom Planet at the beginning of the episode. We also heard "Campus" (>/+) by Vampire Weekend as Nate, Dan & Vanessa talk about SATs. And who couldn't recognize that wonderfully subtle sex song, "Elevator" (>/+) by Flo Rida feat. Timbaland as Blair torments Nelly with music.
Grey's Anatomy gave us some unique tracks, many of which I thought didn't actually fit the musical landscape of the show. Katalyst feat. Stephanie McKay brought us the jazzy "Say What You Feel" (>/+) as Addison returned to Seatle Grace. The Greenskeepers returned for the first time in a long time to the show with "Money" during the lunch scene. There was also "Buildings and Mountains" (>/+) by Republic Tigers as Meredith & Derek talk and Addison tells the Chief she's not coming back. This was the song I felt was a little bit of a strange fit for the show. I really enjoy the song, but it seemed like I was all of a sudden watching a different show.
On One Tree Hill, Bucko the clown arrived to "Everything's Magic" (>/+) by Angels and Airwaves. Two Hours Traffic had "Sure Can Start" (>/+) air as Nathan & Lucas prepared Jamie's cake.
Scrubs used "Missed The Boat" (>/+) by Modest Mouse as its closing track, while Ugly Betty had "Never Enough" (>/+) by Belinda as Hilda gives Gina a manicure and "Calabra 2007" (>/+) by Enur feat. Natasja when Christian Siriano arrives at Mode.
But The Hills won this week with a series of solid songs. Colbie Caillat has become the offical Lauren and Steven relationship artist as she had both "Dreams Collide" (>/+) and "Realize" (>/+) used during and after their date. However, the best of the week this time around was "Bleeding Love" (>/+) by Leona Lewis when Steven arrives at the housewarming party. I knew that this song would be used at some point in the near future and here we have it. I like the fact that it sounds somewhat upbeat while containing sad lyrics and I think that represents the Steven and Lauren relationship pretty well.
As the season winds down, we're going to start to narrow down the "Best of the Week" winners into nominees for the TV Show Music Awards. Keep tuned for the most important (because it's the only one) awards recognizing music use on TV shows.
