HoF - "Pocketful Of Sunshine" by Natasha Bedingfield
First off, let me post a disclaimer. I got sucked into The Hills this year and actually went back and watched both of the previous seasons, and Laguna Beach. While I don't really know what possessed me to do so, I think it has something to do with the fact that I can relate to Lauren with moving on to new things and dealing with issues that come up along the way. I was in the process of transitioning from college to the real work world and it has (and still does have) its difficult times. But enough about me, why did I pick this song for a "Hall Of Fame" post?
Ever since watching the end of the third season's first half, I have listened to this song many times and it always brings me back to the final episode. The scene where the girls are all going onto new things and getting away from the craziness of L.A. really fits perfectly with the song. While I'm not a big fan of using music from a reality show in this blog, I admit pseudo-drama shows The Hills are worth mentioning. In some ways it is more difficult for a show like The Hills to use a song in an excellent capacity. They have less control over what images are used. Instead, they can only use cutting and various establishing shots. In any fashion, I think this is a great music use.
To see what I'm talking about, you can watch the scene at MTV.com at about 18 minutes in. I also recommend checking out this YouTube video of Natasha Bedingfield performing live on the Today show. I've never heard her perform live and while I can't say it was the best live performance I've ever heard, she is pretty good. She also explains a little bit about the lyrics at the beginning which basically matches what I already said.
