BotW - "Secret" and "Three Wishes" by The Pierces

There are good song uses and then there are awesome song uses.  This week, we're featuring the latter.  But, before I get to this week's best, let's mention all of the other great music you heard this week.  Chuck showed off a great Christmas party track with "Christmas In Hollis" (>/+) by Run DMC at the Buy More holiday party.  The show then ended with "I Melt With You" (>/+) by Modern English as Anna and Morgan talk.  Over on Grey's Anatomy, we heard "Circles" (>/+) by Natalie Walker as Meredith talks with Stan's wife. "Can't Get You Out Of My Mind" (>/+) by Sonya Kitchell played on Private Practice when Dell and Sam kiss Naomi.  Reaper featured "Nobody Wants U" (>/+) by The Dollyrots, a very popular group to the show so it seems, when Sam and Cady dance.  It also used Guster's "Satellite" (>/+) at the end as Sam assures Cady that she's not Jerry's daughter.  Finally, Scrubs kept its tradition of playing great music at the end of its episodes with Jump Little Children's "B-13" (>/+).

Now let's jump on to the good stuff.  I have to take back everything I said about Gossip Girl last week.  It was losing me, and the Thanksgiving episode really was pretty dull, but this week's was top notch.  A large part of that comeback has to do with the music used this time around.  We got some good music with Sea Wolf's "You're A Wolf" (>/+) during Chuck and Blair's makeout session and some obligatory Rooney with "What For" (>/+) at Allison's art show.  But the best was yet to come with "Apologize" (>/+) by OneRepublic at the end of the episode.  Regarding that, I generally find it negative when a very popular song is used in a TV show because it tends to detract from the moment, but this was not one of those times.  This was a great use for wrapping up the episode.

However, the best came from The Pierces, who also happened to perform live during the debutante ball.  Since I couldn't pick between the two, I decided to call both "Secret" (>/+) and "Three Wishes" (>/+) best of the week.  "Secret" was used perfectly in a lyrical and tone kind of way with the build up to a punch and "Three Wishes" was a fitting background to the relationship of Blair and Chuck splitting, Serena standing up to her grandmother, and Dan and Serena getting back together.  On a final note, The Pierces are my new favorite group.  And that, my friends, is what great music use is all about.

What do you think of the music used this week?  Like it, dislike it?  Do you share my obsession with The Pierces?
