BotW - "Rockers To Swallow" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Finally, Grey's Anatomy procured some great music for the first time this season. We heard all sorts of awesome music, reminding me of the earlier days of the show when the music was sometimes fun. But not all of it was fun music. What better track to use when the Chief and Camille are talking about fighting or giving up than to use "Hawaii" by Meiko. Not to mention that the track ran over into the scene when Torres finally talks with Izzie. What a great choice! Then there was "Sun Comes Up" (>/+) by John Legend during the final scenes. I'm not really sure how to describe how well it fit, but I think that might be why I enjoyed its use so much.
Over in New York, they used some pretty nice music as well. Gossip Girl used "Jezebel" (>/+) by Two Hours Traffic and provided a nice background to Serena and Dan's first date. I also enjoyed "Something Like That" by Tim during the first kiss scene. I admit it, I'm a Serena and Dan fan. I hide it well don't I?
There were plenty of other songs this week that were decent, but the point of "Best of the Week" is to mention the ones that fit the scenes the best. And that honor goes 100% to "Rockers To Swallow" (>/+) by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Bet if you ever listened to the track prior to hearing it on Grey's Anatomy that you never pictured a cat fight in the cafeteria of a hospital. While you may never have had that thought, Alexandra Patsavas obviously has, and as so many times before I'm willing to follow her imagination on this one. Great scene, great song, and perhaps the best use this season thus far.
