Adrienne Pierce Interview

From October 2006

  1. We'll start off easy... Fall or Spring?
I want to say spring. Everything is coming alive in the spring......but I love those first cool days when you put on a sweater at night and maybe light a fire. I love getting new school supplies even though I don't go to school anymore.
  2. Off the top of your head, name a song that you've been listening to the most recently.
I have been listening to Love Is Everything by Jane Siberry, ohhhhh...can I name a few more? I have been listening to First Day of My Life by Bright eyes and listening to Dolly Parton sing Silver Dagger.
  3. Do you ever watch television? If so, what's your favorite show & why?
I don't have a television but I loved Six Feet Under. I have rented every episode on DVD. I have watched the shows my songs have been in and I thought they were really very good. It would be easy to get hooked on both Veronica Mars and Grey's Anatomy.
  4. Were you excited to learn your music would be aired on Grey's Anatomy and Veroncia Mars?
Yes I was very excited to hear that the songs would be aired. I guess some people feel that artists are somehow selling out by putting their songs on TV but television music supervisors are far more likely to give room to alternative or independent artists than radio. If you want to make music without compromising and without writing songs that fit the radio format, (ie. if you want to avoid selling out but still make a living so you can make more music) it really helps to get played on good television shows that have devoted fans.
  5. What impact has it had?
I think it has had a great impact. A whole new audience has found my music and I now hear from people from all over the world. It is fun. I have met people at shows who heard of me through one of those programs.
  6. When people listen to your music, how do want them to react to it?
I don't want them to react in any particular way. I would hope it would make them feel good or make them feel less alone and make them want to hear it again. People tell me that my songs unfold over time for them and they start to find little hidden meanings they did not hear before. I like finding those things in my favorite songs. It is like getting closer to a painting and you start to see the details and notice that what looks like a flowers is a baby upside down or something. I am not making sense but is that ok? Can you tell I have been painting lately?
  7. Have you always known that you'd want to create music?
I created music for a long time before I even realized I wanted to. I became obsessed and then realized I had made this choice. I did not always know, but I knew I wanted to create something.
  8. Have any funny stories about performing or touring on the road?
Ahhhhhh yes. Wow. That is the thing about touring. It is mostly driving or flying and loading gear, but it is certainly peppered with funny stories. I think I will make a long list and post it on my site soon. I cannot choose one to tell you now.
  9. You're stuck on the proverbial island and of course there's only one CD with you. Which one would it be?
Again I must say I am terrible at making choices. So......it would be a mixed CD made by my friend John O'Brien. He has great taste and makes the best mix CD's. It would definitely have Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen on it.
  10. What are your hopes for the coming year?
I am releasing a new CD in 2007. I hope to tour most of the year and still have time to write and record more songs. I have plans to go to Australia, New Zealand and Japan. I also plan to tour a lot in the US and hopefully Europe. I also really want to learn to surf and I want to volunteer at an orphanage in Brazil. Those last two things may have to wait until next year though.
